Hope chests...and a very cool cookbook idea!

Has anyone ever thought about these? I have been giving a lot of thought to them lately. Maybe it's the ages of the girls, who knows LOL! Anyway I have some cool ideas (I think they are anyway) that I thought I would share with you for filling them up. I have been reading a book The Hope Chest A Legacy of Love by Rebekah Wilson that has been pretty interesting. Of course I have all girls but I think some things could be applicable to boys too. I know that as a wife I would have appreciated some thoughts on what my husband loves, makes him happy, recipes of foods he likes to eat... I think it would have helped me as a new bride. I am trying to share with my girls things that I have done or still do to make my hubby feel special. We were folding clothes a few nights ago and I told them after we got a washer and dryer in the house after we had been married a few years, I would take Wade's towel and put it in the dryer and have it waiting for him when he got out of the shower. This came about cause we were folding the warm laundry and Michelle said she loved warm laundry! This was a simple thing to do but on a cold night a warm towel is a nice thing. How about a binder with little ways to say I love you to your mate. When I was first married young and stupid didn't even thumbnail how bad I was! A book with some suggestions, TNT (tried 'n true suggestions) would have been great coupled with a mom's inside knowledge. Well I just think it would have been great (just something for moms of boys to chew on). How about fun stories with or without pictures? What a nice memory lane! I am thinking all of this in a mom's own hand written with each child in mind, what a legacy!
Think about all the tricks you now know as a mom and wife, how you clean things, why you do certain things in the home in a certain way. Why do I wash the whites last? Well I do it so all the rags that I have used when I am cleaning the house get washed when I am done so EVERYTHING is clean but I am weird that way.
How about recipes? I had this really cool idea a while back. Years ago I bought each of my girls recipe boxes and figured they could write down all the recipes and have them forever. Well I thought about it for a long time and I came up with an even better idea...I think! LOL! We all have printers at home and they do a real good job of printing out pictures and things now for relatively cheap. So my revolutionary idea is to make a recipe scrapbook!!!! I love the idea of scrapbooking but admit I haven't done much with it but picture this. You cook with your kids your family's fav. recipes, take pictures of whatever, the process of making it, the ingredients, the finished product, you and your kids spending time making it etc. Write out, once again in your own hand, the recipe, maybe some fun memories (the day you made it, when you ate it etc) and make a scrapbook page. I bought a scrapbook that is 8.5 x 11. Make the page and scan it into your computer, for me I would make three copies of it, one for each of my girls. I would keep the original but I would also save the scan of the page on three different rewriteable CD's. I would give each girl a CD along with their scrapbook that way if anything happened to a page, got something spilled on or whatever they could just reprint the page out!! I bought just one scrapbook to try this out and see where it goes. There are so many cool fonts, computer programs for scrapbooking, stickers out there that this could really take off. I bought the 8.5 x 11 so it would be easy to scan into the computer and wouldn't be too bulky as a cookbook. I have a teachers discount card from Joann's which gives me an EXTRA 15% off of anything I buy there, even if it is on sale! I waited until the scrapbook stuff was 50-60% off and then used my discount card and WALLA! A very cheap way to get this done. If you have sons wouldn't their future wives love these memories for their husbands and their children?
I will post some more on hope chests soon as I have some other thoughts. Please let me know what you think of the cookbook thing, I would love to hear variations and improvements and I know there will be plenty from all the good brains out there!

Love
Laura

I like your cookbook idea! I'm sure children and future spouses would really treasure that. Would you add your tips and advice into that same book, maybe between the recipes?

I'm hoping my hubby will make our daughter a hope chest when we get back to the states. I'd love to read your ideas about what to fill it with!

That is a great idea. I have thought about it for Elisabeth (even though she is three) but I never really thought about it for the boys--it is so nice when we can get wonderful ideas from our wonderful friens. BTW--good job on your weight loss.
