I want to introduce you to my new best friend, I have had many friends like this before but this one is special! There are many water bottles like this but this one is MINE! (all Marine wives should be saying where have I heard something like that before??) On my never ending quest to get healthy and lose weight I am trying to drink more water. Those who know me know that I have a special liking for SODA! It is my downfall I regret to say. Even though I drank diet, caffeine free soda it still wasn't the best thing for me. As I said in an earlier post we are re-evaluating our budget and I am trying to find ways to save money. I was buying cases of water at Sam's (30 or so bottles for about $4) but when walking through Sam's a couple of weeks ago I saw a Brita pitcher with two nalgene bottles and two filters for $24! I went and checked how much the filters were and they are $4 a piece. Each filter makes up to 2 gallons a day for 2 months, so about 120 gallons. That is way more than we were getting in the case! I like the nalgene bottles because I am a water snob. Some waters taste "off" to me and there are no scents or plastic tastes with these bottles. They were on the Biggest Loser and they saved a bunch of plastic from the landfill. I am honestly more interested in how much money it saves us but hey if I can keep a plastic bottle outta the landfill...why not!
Here's where I stand
Soda=3 cases a week/4 weeks a month/1728 ounces = $48.00 a month
Water=2 cases a week/4 weeks a month/4056 ounces = $28.00 a month
Brita=1/2 a filter used every month/2 gallons a day/30 days/7680 ounces = $2.00 a month
The math seems to pan out! I have purchased a reusable nalgene water bottle for each of us so less trash and just a quick rinse out at the end of the day and thrown in the dishwasher every few days. I am drinking 1 gallon or 4 of my bottles a day, everyone has been drinking much more water which is also good. I was able to find a deal at the commissary for the green nalgene water bottles filled with single serving drink mixes for $4.88! I am buying a couple more in case tops gets lost or broken. The lid I like is an "on the go" lid, at the nalgene website it is $10 for the same bottle and the lids are about $5 and up. I love a good deal and I love to think that I am saving money!

I've never heard of a "nalgene" bottle.... have I been out of the country too long?
I'm so glad you've found a way that helps you save so much money, and will improve your health! I hope you stick with it.
If I remember correctly, the last time you decided to drink more water, didn't you hurt your foot on the case?? I hope you don't abuse your nice new bottles that way ;)
Oh, and although their are many water bottles like it, there is one that I call MINE as well.... I got the reference right away ;)
